To Shave or Not To Shave
By Chris A D
That is the question. There are many reasons why one shaves, and there are many reasons one does not shave. Let’s explore the grooming of those men in the workforce.
Now, it all depends on what type of work we are talking about. Obviously, there are careers where you can have beards like ZZ Top if you want to, and it would be okay. Let’s talk a bit about the corporate world for the sake of this argument.
Is a boss going to hire a guy who comes in for an interview and his face is riddled with severe shaving rash? Maybe; however, he may look a little un-kept. But what if that is how his face looks all the time after he shaves?
One of the typical looks associated with success in business is to be clean-shaven. Why is that? What is the difference between a man with a beard and a man who does not have a beard? Either look has no bearing on whether or not one has the mental capacity to excel in a business setting.
There are many men who would desperately like to shave every day. Unfortunately when they do shave they get severe ingrown hairs. There is a good chance that many of these men do not reach the apex of their career potential because of a lack of confidence or opportunity due to shaving issues.
For the most part, it is quite common for men to shave their face in the morning at the start of the day. It’s very clean, put-together look that signifies one is well groomed and put together. Read the rest of this entry »
Secrets of Zinc Oxide Sunscreen
By Renee Pawlish
It is very difficult to find a sunscreen that you can feel safe using for yourself and your family. Deciphering all the ingredients, knowing the difference between chemical and organic sunscreens, and what to ultimately choose are hurdles everyone has to overcome. Zinc oxide is an ingredient used in organic sunscreens. But what is the difference between this ingredient that is common in organic sunscreen, and a lot of the other ingredients that are in most chemical sunscreens.
Chemical sunscreens contain ingredients that are absorbed into the skin. Sun exposure is then limited by sunlight being deactivated or degraded when contacted by the chemicals. On the other hand, organic sunscreens are considered physical blockers because the ingredients sit on the surface of the skin, and the ingredients, such as zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, are not absorbed into the skin (one of its secrets, that makes it safe). This is also why some people notice a “whitish tint” on their skin when they apply organic sunscreen (this has to do with the nanoparticle amounts in the sunscreen).
In micronized form, zinc oxide is not absorbed into the skin and it acts to block UVA rays (another secret). It also rarely causes skin irritation, which can occur much more easily with chemical sunscreens, because of the PABAs in them. Additionally, zinc oxide is recognized by the Food and Drug Administration as a Category I skin protectant, which means it is safe for compromised skin. Furthermore, it is considered stable and does not degrade in the sun (a concern with ingredients in chemical sunscreens). And since it is not absorbed into the body, it cannot be metabolized (another concern with ingredients in chemical sunscreens). Read the rest of this entry »
